Xerostomia in advanced cancer patients
Description
APD515 is an oromucosal formulation of a currently marketed drug (a muscarinic agonist) optimised for the new use of treatment of xerostomia. Developed by Acacia Pharma as a liquid formulation, APD515 is applied directly to the inner (buccal) lining of the mouth allowing it to act locally and rapidly on the salivary glands, with minimal systemic absorption.
Status
Preclinical efficacy and safety testing is complete and an optimised oromucosal formulation has been developed. A Phase I clinical trial has been completed generating PK, safety and preliminary efficacy data. A Phase II assessment in advanced cancer patients with xerostomia was initiated July 2011.
