This information is combined with the company’s internal pharmacology expertise to interrogate a range of known marketed drugs to identify compounds with the required activity. Product opportunities are optimised for their new indication by selecting the appropriate route of delivery and formulation. Acacia Pharma then works with leading cancer care physicians to generate the most appropriate development plan for the product concerned.
This approach allows Acacia Pharma to efficiently generate attractive cancer supportive care products with lower development risk, which can be brought to market more quickly and at lower cost when compared to new chemical and molecular entities. Acacia Pharma’s products are protected through patents covering the new use and optimised drug delivery.
Acacia Pharma plans to commercialise its novel cancer supportive care products itself in selected European territories by building a hospital-focused sales and marketing organisation. Elsewhere it intends to out-license its products to generate attractive returns from other regions. In addition, Acacia Pharma is seeking to in-license or acquire clinical-stage product candidates for supportive care to complement its current development pipeline.
